  1. We are so enjoying your posts. RV’ing and sailing are more similar that you will ever know. Keep the good times rolling!

    • Lynn, I told Nathan stories about your family’s sailing adventures at the marina yesterday. Your lifestyle seems so exotic to us! Nathan and David walked the docks with their tongues dangling. Beautiful boats. Old leather skinned men with heavy gold jewelry and well proportioned wives. Thick yankee accents, slightly foreign accents, barely audible grunts. The only thing all of the authentic port inhabitants seem to have in common is their lack of socks. Can you and Hugh tell me what this means, or would you have to tie me to the yardarm for spilling a sailing secret? Very curious indeed.

  2. As a former home school teacher I of course cannot just tell you the answer to your naked ankle query. Therefore, I shall provide a little quiz…
Question: What is the reason for lack of socks among sailors?
    A. Sailors want to show off their fabulous pedicures with a flick-off of the shoe.
    B. No socks in the laundry bag make the pedestrian trek to the laundromat less weighty thereby allowing enough room to toss a beer in the bag to drink during the dry cycle.
    C. Socks on boat deck make for slippery footing.
    D. Sailors are so busy having fun and spending their copious amounts of money that they don’t have time for mundane tasks such as clipping their toenails therefore their socks often have holes in them so they just don’t bother.
    E. Home schooling mom’s use all available onboard socks to make sock puppets in order to stage the latest puppet production of Gone With the Wind.
    F. All of the Above.
    G. None of the Above

  3. Hello saggywagontrail and LynnRJ, I so enjoyed your discussion about socks! I live on a boat and do have a few pairs of socks, which I don’t wear often. Actually, most of my socks are being worn by canning jars, drinking glasses and wine bottles. Last month my husband and I sailed from Everett, WA to San Diego, CA, where we now live. We will leave for Mexico and beyond next year. I will be in Sanibel in January (not by boat) and would love to meet you LynnRJ, and other liveaboards. Would you like to communicate by e-mail or facebook? I have started a blog/website http://www.LiveAboardFun.com
You can e-mail me at WindWatcher2004@msn.com
Looking forward to meeting you. – Jan
